The Heath Garden, Parliament Hill
For this garden right next to Hampstead Heath, we wanted to connect the space to the Heath beyond and build on the stunning views overlooking the London skyline.
To achieve this, we obscured the curving boundary line (made from hand-woven hazel hurdle) behind beech hedging and deep beds of planting.
We then zonalised the space into three distinct areas; a dining area by the house paved with a blend of old red clay pavers already on site and new ones brought in to match, a middle transition area through species rich lawn, feature stepping stones and generous planting beds; and a sunken seating area framed with a dry stone wall made from reclaimed yorkstone.
A curved stone bench overlooking a wildlife pond in the lower seating area creates a quiet destination at the back of the garden from which to enjoy the space.
